The military attacks in Israel on October 7th 2023 and the
unprecedented scale of the subsequent continual bombing of Gaza
have sent shock waves around the world, with particular anxiety and
grief over the fate of their families for relatives abroad of all
those directly affected, including exiled Palestinians, some of
whom live here in Cambridge.
We have seen the deliberate targeting of civilians, including
clearly identified medical, health and rescue workers, as well as
academics, journalists and writers. In a territory where half of
the population are children, these too are being killed and maimed
in huge numbers. To grieve and honour these people a weekly vigil
is held outside Addenbrookes hospital on Friday evenings.
