Background Information: On 16th October 2017 Members agreed to the mandatory requirement for the installation of CCTV in Hackney Carriage and Private Hire vehicles. In September 2020, Members agreed for the implementation of all licensed vehicles to have a approved CCTV system within the licensed vehicle by April 2022. This was however dependent on identifying an approved supplier. Due to several factors, an approved supplier was not identified and the implementation of CCTV has been delayed. The above implementation date will not be met. As we continue to look to implement CCTV jointly with South Cambridgeshire District, following the release of the Statutory taxi and private hire vehicle standards (July 2020), it would be in the interest of the council to consider proportionality of CCTV use. The standards advise that the use of CCTV is kept under regular review. In light of this we will take this opportunity to review Cambridge City Council approach to CCTV in licence vehicles.
