Co-option of Tenant Representative Committee VACANCY

Decision of:

Housing Scrutiny Committee

Reference:

18/URGENCY/HS/4

Date of decision:

10 July 2018

Recorded  on:

10th July 2018

Decision Type:

Non Key Decision

Matter for Decision:

Co-option onto Housing Scrutiny Committee of an eligible person who had previously stood in Tenant and Leaseholder Representative elections.

Why the decision had to be made (and any alternative options):

On 25th May 2018 we received a resignation from John Marais for his position as Tenant Representative on the Housing Scrutiny Committee; effective from 25th June 2018.

The Committee’s decision(s):

Approved the co-option of Mark Tunstall as a tenant representative onto Housing Scrutiny Committee. Term of office to run from appointment to 2020.

Reasons for the decision:

The Constitution requires membership of 5 Tenants and 1 Leaseholder Representative to sit on the committee. The next Tenant Representative election is due to take place in 2020 so the Constitution states that the Scrutiny Committee may co-opt an eligible person to fill the vacancy until the next scheduled election date.

Scrutiny consideration:

The executive councillor for housing, chair and spokesperson of housing scrutiny committee were consulted prior to the action being authorised.

Report:

See agenda item 7 housing scrutiny committee 19th June 2018

Conflicts of interest:

None

Comments:

Mark Tunstall, the candidate who came 7th in the 2016 election, has confirmed he is still very much interested in the role.
