The undersigned understand the need for non-essential businesses to close in order to stop the spread of covid-19 infection in the area. However, food stalls should be allowed to remain open in the same way that supermarkets and restaurants are.

Public health officials say that the virus is less likely to be transmitted from person to person in open air areas, which makes open air markets safer than closed off shops.

Further rules can be applied to keep the shoppers safe (such as the mandatory use of masks in the market, one way system, only stall staff touching the food) but closing the market while supermarkets and restaurants are allowed to remain open is not a decision we are happy with.
