The Government has requested the Leaders of local authorities that were due to hold elections in May 2026 to submit their views on the impact of postponing. We therefore ask the Leader of the Council to submit that postponing will cause an increase in cynicism about politics and politicians. This will lead to an increase in voter alienation and more support for extremist political parties. You need to cultivate public engagement, not suppress it.
