To elect a Leader of the Council

Following the announcement by Councillor Lewis Herbert to Council on 21 October 2021 that he will resign as Leader of the Council, which is to be effective from 30 November 2021, the Members of Council are required to appoint a new Leader of the Council.

 

Article 7.3 of the Constitution states:

 

The Leader will be a councillor elected to the position by the Council and will remain as Leader until the day of the Annual Meeting of the Council in the year their term of office ends or until:

 

1.      death or disqualification; or

2.      resignation from the office; or

3.      removal from office by resolution of the Council.

 

At the meeting, the Mayor will call for nominations and a vote will be taken.

Minutes:

Cllr Collis proposed and Cllr Healy seconded the nomination of Cllr Anna Smith.

 

Resolved (by 21 votes to 0)

 

That Cllr Anna Smith is elected Leader of the City Council.

Changes to the appointments to the Combined Authority-as appropriate

The Council is required to appoint its representative and substitute representative.  The outcome of the previous agenda item may require a change(s) to Combined Authority nominees.  Nominations will be sought as appropriate.

Minutes:

Cllr Herbert proposed and Cllr Smart seconded the nomination of Cllr A Smith as the substitute member on the Combined Authority Board.

 

Resolved

 

That Cllr Anna Smith is appointed the Council’s substitute member on the Combined Authority Board.
